LETTER – ‘Mr Mahaye, we feel your park pain’

This problem has been ignored by you and your colleagues since day one, Sir, and I hesitate to add the South African Police in this equation, as they do not really do real police work this side of the town

Sir
“Dear Mr Mahaye…. We saw your response in the Courier with regard to the little contretemps you have had in McPhail Park. And, yes, this incident did illustrate to what extent people in Dundee misbehave.
Coronation Park is booming as I write this. Screaming and yelling little girls who are obviously under the influence of liquor, and irritating the religion out of everybody who can hear them. And we can all hear them, I promise you.

I am so glad you as town councillor said you have had enough. It is a pity that our town councillor here in Ward Four does not live next to the park, to see what is happening in this special curse of a place. I am actually very glad that these accursed parks affected you personally, as now you have the first-hand experience of what we go through every weekend. For the last almost ten years now.

Countless meetings with the municipality – you were at more than one of them – and our less than useful law enforcement agencies in this town, all led to a big fat nothing.

This problem has been ignored by you and your colleagues since day one, Sir, and I hesitate to add the South African Police in this equation, as they do not really do real police work this side of the town. City bylaws are but a mere buzzword of the lawyers in their offices, as nobody in this town knows how to police them, and those that do, could not give a damn. They do not have to listen to noisy louts drinking from car boots and playing their loud music to where the eagles can hear them.

I am very happy to hear murmurs of fencing the parks, like the one in Sibongile that was put up months ago.
That pushed all the party traffic to our doors, and now to yours, too. Welcome to the club, Sir. I was just wondering, did you call the cops…?
Just curious if they even answered their phone.

They never do when we phone them.

We, the residents, shall be watching this development closely. I do hope your unhappy experience will lead to the closure of this problem, as nothing else so far did.
