‘KZN Premier has failed to clamp down on corruption’

If the Premier is serious about good governance, we urge him to follow through on the recommendation in the forensic report and open a case of fraud and corruption with the SAPS Anti-Corruption Task Team

Sir
KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Willies Mchunu, is failing to clamp down on officials implicated in stealing public funds.
Several officials in his office who have been implicated in the irregular awarding of tenders worth almost R23 million are still in their positions a year after auditors recommended action against them.
Premier Mchunu’s goodwill in the fight against graft is not enough and we challenge him to deal with individuals close to him who had been implicated in different corruption scandals.
Premier Mchunu must take action against corruption. Scandal after scandal, the Premier’s lack of political will undermines the fight against corruption in the province.
The IFP challenges Premier Mchunu to honestly answer the following questions:
1. Why has he chosen to sit on his hands whilst corruption is rife in the province?
2. Why has he decided to not investigate these cases and any other cases presented to him?
3. Why are the officials who have been implicated in corruption in his office still occupying their positions?
4. Why have the Auditor Generals recommendations not been implemented?
It is outrageous that the wheels of justice roll so slowly to expose and punish the political elites even when the evidence of their criminality is clear.
If the Premier is serious about good governance, we urge him to follow through on the recommendation in the forensic report and open a case of fraud and corruption with the SAPS Anti-Corruption Task Team.
The IFP demands that all officials working in Supply Chain Management in all provincial government departments must undergo vetting, including polygraph testing to determine their integrity and suitability to hold office when dealing with billions of Rands of public money.
