Municipality must not kill the golden goose

Residential areas are neglected in that bylaws are not implemented yet residents are expected to pay rates or face cutoffs

Sir
I found that advert by the Endumeni Municipality highlighting their achievements over the past years very interesting. Good to see developments in the rural areas.
Well done.

A note of caution though: do not kill the goose that lays the golden egg. In other words, the ratepayers of the former Dundee and Glencoe towns have been neglected severely.
Business rates, in particular, have rocked by over 130 % in some cases and this has led to retrenchments and other hardships. Promises by the municipality to have this issue looked at have fallen on deaf ears.

Ward 3 can do its own thing and is even exempt from electrical auditing.
Everyone knows illegal power connections cost the municipality about R25-million a year yet nothing is done in that area. Is this a new kind of subtle apartheid?

There are no street lights between Jeff’s Service Station and Tri Star on Karel Landman Street.
Many other street lights are out.

The bridge near Ethangeni School looks very rickety and the recent water bursts have left their mark on this section of road.

Basically, everything looks pretty bad and we need our municipality to also pay attention to those who contribute to those very comfortable salaries earned by these ‘werkers’.
