Motoring tips: Refuelling the tank

The same 45 litre tank of petrol now costs R100 more to fill

We should be expecting another 25 cent increase in the petrol price on July 4. From February 2018 to June 2018 the price of petrol has increased by R1.58 cents.

The same 45 litre tank of petrol now costs R100 more to fill. It will seem that after filling petrol, due to the petrol gauge needle not moving that the tank has not been filled.

However this is not the case. All filling stations get their pumps calibrated every 18 months as per government regulations. The price of petrol is also government regulated.

When anyone goes to refuel, always check that the attendant is filling the vehicle and if need be ask for a slip to see that the fuel has been dispensed. Motor vehicle owners need to also adjust their budget due to the cost of petrol increasing.

It would be better to fill up more at one time as opposed to filling R100 every time. This will lessen the visits to the filling station. Tyre pressure should also be checked or alternatively nitrogen be filled in the tyre to maintain the correct pressure at all times. Correct tyre pressure will allow less fuel being used.

Drivers who travel more than 20 000km per year should rather drive diesel vehicles.
