Concern over Court Order for municipality to cover costs

Why should we be subjected to such a judgment while the relevant responsible councillors failed us?

Sir
We have noted with interest and delight the court ruling in favour of Endumeni Civic Association relating to irregular and corrupt allocations of RDP housing, as appeared in Courier dated February 23.

We congratulate Mr Sithebe and his Association for relentlessly pursuing this exercise that was fraught with “promises, corruption and abuse of power”. The consistency and perseverance over such an extended period on the part of the Association are laudable.

It was believed at one stage that the entire process was an exercise in futility. Comprehensive investigations need to be implemented and the perpetrators should be brought to book. A matter of serious concern to us is that the Municipality (ratepayers) pay all costs incurred, as reported. Why should we be subjected to such a judgment while the relevant responsible councillors failed us?

As the current Speaker was serving as a councillor during the entire period of the ongoing saga we ask for her comments on this subject and advise as to which accountable officials are obliged to pay the costs. Please respond via this medium: The Courier.

We also request comments from councillors serving on the Executive.
