LETTER: Received with a warm smile on the other end of the line

Jan is someone who is always willing to assist no matter your problem, and one can hear it in the tone of his voice that he answers that phone with a friendly smile on his face.

Madam – Every week we read about the lack of communication and assistance from the Newcastle Municipality.

Whether its to report a water leak, a pothole or even to inquire a shockingly high municipal account, the attitude is all the same; dismal.

However, every now and again you are fortunate enough to have a friendly man named Jan Nortjie answer on the other end, and immediately you just know your phone call is going to be a pleasant one.

Jan is someone who is always willing to assist no matter your problem, and one can hear it in the tone of his voice that he answers that phone with a friendly smile on his face.

Jan can be used an example as to how a employee dealing with customers should behave, and his people etiquette is definitely one which should be taught to anyone dealing in a job which requires you to work with people.

Yes, I know we do not always enjoy our jobs, and more often than none we just do not feel like dealing with complaints, but, at the end of the day you are paid to do a job, so do it well.

Jan, thank you for making our days a little bit better when it comes to dealing with our dear municipality, we look forward to having you on the other end of the call for many more years to come.
