A closer look at Silica

Silica is responsible for strengthening connective tissues of the body including the muscles, bones

Dr Lalitha Badul

Silica (or Silicon Dioxide) is found in nature as sand, quartz, cell walls of organisms, plants and animals, all grasses. All life is dependent upon it. Silica is naturally found in the body and is vital for the health of the skin and body.

Silica is responsible for strengthening connective tissues of the body including the muscles, bones, tendons, cartilage, hair and nails. Silica is also known as the beauty mineral because it helps the skin to retain moisture, preventing drying out and degeneration.

Collagen that gives the skin its structure and sup¬port is mostly made up of silica. A deficiency in Silica can cause a loss in the skin’s elasticity or bounce and inhibit the body’s ability to heal wounds.

Food sources include cucumber, green beans, celery, leeks, bell pep¬pers and strawberries.  Silica is a key ingredient found in cosmoceutical products where it is used to encapsulate pure Vitamin C in order to preserve its potency.

Sil¬ica was chosen because it is a sub¬stance that is naturally found in the body which the skin readily accepts as its own chemistry.
