Editor – I would really appreciate it if you could please have this letter published in your esteemed newspaper.
As the parent of a child who is at university, I would like to send this message to our children. Having a university education is something that is earned by working hard throughout your schooling career. It is something that every child dreams of, but the reality is that not every child will make the grade to be accepted into university.
I work hard to be able to pay my child’s fees, but it makes me sick and disgusted to see how badly children behave because they decided that fees must fall.
For those children who are deserving of a university education, but cannot afford it, bursaries are available.
Parents need to educate their children and let them know that without fees, these institutions cannot function.
It is the poor to middle class children who will eventually suffer, as the rich will send their children overseas to study. Be happy with what we have and make the most of it. Stop expecting everything for free!
