Former resident disappointed by a dirty town

To begin with as one enters Estcourt, you are immediately bombarded with deep potholes and damaged roads

I recently visited my ‘hometown’ after seven years. I must say I was very disappointed in what I saw. It seems like a ‘don’t’ care’ attitude has embraced most of the residents and the municipality too.

To begin with as one enters Estcourt, you are immediately bombarded with deep potholes and damaged roads. I think almost every road in Estcourt bears the scar of a pothole or damage. It is really sad because how did it slip into such a bad place? Next, there aren’t even road markings on most of the residential roads.

In some areas, the speed humps aren’t even visible. Their faded paint assists drivers very little. The litter…This is the worst. It seems like locals have forgotten how to keep their town tidy. I have seen bins, some broken and highly inadequate.

I wonder if there were more bins available, if we would see a cleaner town? Or are residents so used to discarding their waste on the streets of this dirty town? Also parking! This is a huge nightmare, as I experienced during the month-end weekend.

Surely with the development and growth of the town, more alternatives for parking should be available. Water leaks are also so common when one drives around. A lot of water is going to waste in Estcourt and most residents turn a blind eye.

These are just some of the things that bothered me when I visited Estcourt because so much has changed…for the worse. Not even the new taxi rank is a saving grace, it looks like it is years old.

It makes sense why so many people would rather leave Estcourt and relocate to more thriving towns, therefore living a better quality of life. I hope that the people of Estcourt would stand up for their town and hold the councillors accountable, it’s time they fulfilled their election promises.
