In response to the article published in the Estcourt and Midlands News dated August 19 – ‘Black cloud hovers over Estcourt’ – I would like to inform the community that on Sunday, August 14 a fire broke out on the outlying area of our premises.
Blurock Quarries has always taken precautions to avoid such situations by implementing fire breakers on the borders of our property, however due to the strong winds on Sunday, a fire that originated just outside our property, jumped the fire break and burned some of the tyres that were for recycling.
The matter was immediately reported to Estcourt’s Emergency Services by our Health and Safety Manager, Mr DD Hadebe. We are still unsure as to how the fire actually started.
I would like to sincerely apologise to the neighbours and the community of Estcourt for the unpleasant incident. Fortunately there were no reports of further damages or injuries associated with this incident.
We are in the process of revising our safety measures to avoid such incidents from reoccurring.
