Alpha Lipoic Acid is a powerful antioxidant and a natural substance found in certain foods. It is also produced by the body. As an antioxidant, Alpha Lipoic Acid is 400 times stronger than Vitamin C and E.

The major benefit is that it is both water and fat soluble and has the ability to penetrate the skin and the membrane of the skin cell itself. Alpha Lipoic Acid assists cell metabolism, increasing energy while also protecting cells against free radical damage.

Although some topical skin care products do contain Alpha Lipoic Acid, it is more beneficial when taken internally as a supplement or through diet.

Food sources of Alpha Lipoic acid include spinach, broccoli, potatoes, yeast, tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, carrots, beets and organ meat.
