Escalating crime scare: Crime must fall

Perpetrators are so blasé about their 'careers'. Whether it is 3am or 2pm, if they want to burgle a home, they do it and show total disregard if there is someone inside or not.

Madam,

The crime in this town is escalating and it is scary.

I have been reading the paper diligently and am horrified to see how the burglaries are affecting so many people.

What nauseates me, is that the perpetrators are so blasé about their ‘careers’.

Whether it is 3am or 2pm, if they want to burgle a home, they do it and show total disregard if there is someone inside or not.

How long will it take before they hurt someone? How long before they kill someone? How long before they rape a woman?

Something needs to be done, as people are scared, and fear can lead to people taking the law into their own hands.

I feel starting up community chat groups, neighbourhood watch groups and making use of security companies can help in combating crime and deterring criminals.

It is just such a pity that once we have erected our high walls, hired security guards, set up neighbourhood watch groups and all that jazz, that we start living like prisoners.

Harsher penalties should be handed down to the scoundrels responsible; maybe then it will slow down.

Sincerely,

Fed-up with crime
