It’s funny how life changes.
Just when you think you have it all figured out, everything changes. It seems as if when we are most content with everything, in comes a curve ball and we are thrown off our game.
Why is that though?
Is it really life just messing with us? Or are we as humans never truly happy with what we have? The old adage rings true – the more we have, the more we want. We look at those around us and think, ‘I need that.’ But how often do we look at ourselves and think, I love my life and wouldn’t want to change it for anything in the world? Better yet, how often do we look at those less fortunate than ourselves and think ‘I’m so thankful I’m not in their situation.’ Everyone says life is too short, we have to live as if there’s no tomorrow. But honestly, many of us never live that way. When is the last time you did a good deed for a random stranger? Whether it be just greeting them as they walk by or giving them a cheery smile. All it takes is a random act of kindness to makes someone’s day and maybe even change their lives. It doesn’t have to involve money or be a big thing. It just has to be a selfless act of kindness. Be it helping carry someone’s heavy groceries to their car or helping that person pick up their stuff that just fell to the pavement, it’s the little things that matter. You can even just listen to someone who needs a shoulder to cry on. We all know those people in our lives who never admit that they are suffering. They just put on a mask and pretend everything is alright with the world and go about their lives. Deep down they may be hurting but they put on a happy face and try to make others smile. All they really want is for someone to sit them down, say ‘I know you’re not OK, let’s talk.’
So why not be that person?
Why not make a difference in the life of someone else. As Mahatma Gandhi said, ‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’
So Live, Laugh and Love – For tomorrow may never come.
