When I read the article in the Herald of December 4, 2015, “Our paths have crossed,” a lot of memories came to mind concerning John Carnegie.

Working for the local municipality for 23 years in a position in which I dealt with the sensitive issues concerning water and sanitation, I was obviously visited by John quite often as he sought answers with regards to services issues.

When I saw the 1980’s Ford Cortina bakkie and John approaching me, I knew there was some information that was required by him, either about a water or sanitation problem.

In all these years, I can not recall him being rude once. He never questioned any explanation that was given and was very professional in his approach. The article that was a true reflection of the matter most of the time.

Although we did not see each other often, there was a friendship that had developed between us that will always be remembered. The engineering structural design handbook he gave me was very special and highly appreciated.

Thank you for the opportunity to get to know you as a person and may you have a wonderful retirement.

Be blessed till we meet again.
