Madam –

I started teaching at Lincoln Heights Secondary School in 2007. I have muscular dystrophy. The Principal and Deputy Principal at that time, Mr S M Singh and Ms S Chetty, were prepared to accept my application for a teaching post at the school despite the crutches I use to get around.

Thereafter I met a group of wonderful people who go out of their way to make my life easier at school. Mr R Naicker, current principal and the staff are willing to accommodate my needs and arrange meetings and activities to allow me to participate. The pupils are just as accommodating, always prepared to carry boxes and books for me.

Lately, my mobility has decreased drastically and walking on the school grounds has become difficult. This problem disappeared thanks to Imraan Lehree, a Grade 12 pupil at Lincoln Heights Secondary School and Mr Ronnell Singh from Northern Natal Orthopaedics.

I received a mobility scooter from Mr Singh and now getting around on the school ground is a dream. I am humbled by the display of compassion, empathy and generosity of people such as Mr Singh. To all those involved in procuring this wonderful gift, please accept my immense gratitude and appreciation.
