Soccer mom fever

Once upon a time, the Suzuki badge did not instil a lot of confidence with buyers, but the Ertiga, much like the Suzuki Swift, is shattering this misconception.

With motoring, there is a need to strike a balance between fun, style, power and comfort.

You would be hard-pressed to find a car more perfectly balanced than the Suzuki Ertiga. Thrown into the ‘soccer-mom’ category of cars, the Ertiga is actually full of surprises.

Huge amounts of space mean you can fit you child’s entire soccer team into quite easily.

It is not the most stylish of cars, but is not anywhere near ghastly. It produces 70kW, which is really all the get-up and go you need during school runs. You can throw the car around if necessary, and it still handles perfectly fine.

What I loved most about the Suzuki Ertiga was the effortless comfort. Honestly, sitting on each and every one of the seven seats in the car is as comfortable as sitting on a goose pillow.

The ride, coupled with those lovely seats, is certainly something for the history books.

Pile your child’s entire football team inside and there will not be a single moan or squeal about the space in the back, or a hard seat.

Suzuki is fast becoming one of the best dealers in the medium income market, and cars like the Ertiga prove that.

Once upon a time, the Suzuki badge did not instil a lot of confidence with buyers, but the Ertiga, much like the Suzuki Swift, is shattering this misconception.

My only fear about the car was regarding the 130N/m of Torque provided by naturally aspirated 1.4-litre engine. I wonder if this will be enough when the car is fully laden with seven or more passengers.

Sadly, I did not get to test this out, but I did notice that with two passengers, it glided along effortlessly.

Amazingly comfortable, absorbing bumps from some of the harshest roads around, coupled with wonderful ground clearance, this car is seriously practical for our ever-worsening roads.

This is a car for soccer moms, budding families or even the transport industry. It is a car that everyone will be able to find something to enjoy about it.

Beige everywhere… But still gets the job done quite easily and very comfortably.

It is very beige and ordinary but incredibly spacious. It is unassuming… but your children will never be late for school again and you will feel as if you never got out of bed.

I understand the allure it offers, and I like the car. I really do. I call it, “soccer mom fever,” and that is in no way inappropriate; it is just a love for a car that will claim the hearts of many people.

The car comes in a four-speed auto, and a five-speed manual, but I would stick with the manual as it gives a bit more punch when it counts.
