Preparing for the end of the year

As a precaution, start preparing for the end of year as soon as possible.

I would hate to be accused of bringing the Christmas and New Year decorations out too early, but there is that feeling in the air that the end of the year is fast approaching.

It is well known that the December vacation period is one of the most stressful and depressing across the world, including South Africa. One of the most commonly cited reasons for this stress and depression is the feeling of being over-extended, both financially and emotionally.

As a precaution, start preparing for the end of year as soon as possible. Start setting aside money and buying things that you like to have during the holiday period, including special foods and gifts.

It can be useful to draw up a list of things you want in December, and look out for special deals on these goods and tick them off as you get them. Think of creative ways to recycle and make your own gifts.

Start to think of fun activities for your children and family to do during this period, which don’t have to cost money and can avoid the stress of finding things to do at the last minute.

Manage your family’s and guests’ expectations by making travel and activity plans early.

A happy holiday doesn’t have to cost a lot of money, take up a lot of your time or be stressful.
