Stench in Poort Road

The residents and myself have reported this matter to uThukela District Municipality on many occasions, but to no avail.

Editor – Below Carbineer Road, on the way to Lions Park, is a ‘sewer station’.
This pump station has not been working properly (or not at all) for the last 12 years.
The residents and myself have reported this matter to uThukela District Municipality on many occasions, but to no avail.
I have also reported this matter to the Ward councillor.
Because the pump does not work, the following happens… Sewage from Hospital Park and from the Old Golf Course area overflows next to the pump station and then into the storm water line (which is an open stream) and from there, this huge mass of waste flows into the Klip River. The resulting stench, for us and those further down the river, is quite nauseating.
The solution to the problem would be to have proper equipment in full working order which, it seems, uThukela does not or cannot implement. I suggest that a pipeline be built from the pump house to the Klip River to alleviate the stench.
This will not stop the sewage from entering the river, but at least the smell will be removed. Why are we paying sewer fees?
