Learners prepare for their future careers

''Learners who excel in primary school grades often ‘fall behind’ when they get to higher grades because they fail to manage their lives in high school and ‘adapt to certain behaviours’.

On Thursday, the Grade 7 learners at Harpo Primary came to school dressed in items of clothing representing a career they would like to pursue one day. The event was organised by Harpo educators Mr Kubheka and Mr Mhlungu.

Learners, educators and guests gathered in the hall, where interesting presentations took place. The children explained what they would like to ‘become’ when they are older – future lawyers, footballers, doctors, journalists, chefs, paramedics, scientists, pilots and a lot more.

Mr Blose mentioned that some learners who excel in primary school grades often ‘fall behind’ when they get to higher grades because they fail to manage their lives in high school and ‘adapt to certain behaviours’. He motivated the learners to have a vision in life and gave them things to consider such as habits, decision-making, nutrition and self-discipline. He also told them to listen and obey their parents and teachers.

Dr Ngobese from the Department of Education talked about the importance of having a career dress-up day at schools, as these occasions give children a clearer idea of what they can do in the future. “We know that these learners are still growing and that their career choices may change along the way, but now we are preparing them for the future; the future belongs to those who prepare today.”

The principal thanked the organisers, guests and sponsors who supported the Grade 7s and made their day a success.
