Sky is the limit for award-winning local media personality

Sine Nene has left an indelible mark in the Newcastle broadcast space.

Known affectionately as Aunty Wama 2000, Sine’s engaging voice and captivating personality have left radio listeners in little doubt that she was born to be behind a microphone.

Sine, who is only 26 years old, has received multiple award nominations and recently won the Sebenza Women’s Award in the Women in Media category, defeating iconic performers and media personalities such as Baby Cele and Kwezi Ndlovu.

She spent her childhood in Dannhauser before moving onto higher education and graduating from the University of KwaZulu- Natal PMB with and Honours degree in Media Studies, Drama and Performance studies.

Her  first experience in radio was during her high school years, when she got a summer job a youth show at Newcastle Community Radio (NCR). She fell in love with the microphone and has worked in radio ever since, first at Abusekho Ubunzima, a Christian radio station, and now at Imvula FM, where she has been since November.

“I was told so many times that I have the voice for radio, and that, combined with my personality, piqued my interest. The more I did radio, the more I fell in love with how one can captivate an audience’s attention with just words.”

She has not only limited herself to being behind the microphone but is also a prominent ‘social media influencer’ with a significant following.

Even though her job appears to be a lot of fun, it is all about focus, discipline and perseverance.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day so even the day when you don’t feel like doing anything, keep trying.”

Sine recently moved to Durban to explore better opportunities, she says there is no place like home and she wears the title ‘Newcastillian’ with pride.

In her downtime, she loves spending time outside, attending concerts, events, lunch dates, and occasionally reading when she is not working.

Sharing her some of the wisdom she has gained in her brief but productive 26-year career, Sine commented: “Life is too short so aspire every day to wake up and do things that make you happy.

“Live your life as you see fit, and if you are afraid to die, you are also afraid to live.

Congratulations to Sine on winning the coveted Sebenza Womens Award.
