Five ways to keep your children entertained this festive season

Keeping children entertained during the festive holidays is not always as easy as it seems...

Here are five ways to keep your children entertained this festive season.

As any parent knows, once schools close, children have a tendency to become bored very quickly.

This can easily frustrate any parent, especially when those dreaded words are uttered “Mama! I’m feeling bored.”

Try these tips to keep your sanity in check this festive season.

The Newcastle Advertiser has compiled a list of five ways to keep your children busy for hours on end:

1. Host a themed sleepover:

Why not invite a couple of your child’s friends around for a sleepover and movie night during the holidays?

Make it entertaining by having each child dress up as their favorite Christmas character and allowing them to spend the evening watching a marathon of their favorite Christmas movies.

2. Treasure hunts are always a winner:

A treasure hunt is always a good idea. This is a sure-fire technique to keep your children occupied for hours.

Make a small box containing some money, candy, and maybe a toy or two, and bury it someplace in the garden.

Prepare a treasure map ahead of time, including a few hints as to where the treasure might be placed, and then sit back and watch the kids struggle to find it.

3. Work on your baking skills:

Children absolutely love cookies, so this is a solid hit. Look up a fast and easy recipe and let the kids help you bake in the kitchen.

Allow children to be creative with the shapes and sizes of the biscuits as well. Perhaps you could give some of their baked goods as Christmas gifts to their friends and family.

4. Take a day-trip to a destination of your choice:

If not, then why not? We understand that petrol prices have increased, making long-distance travel almost difficult at the moment.

However, because we live in Newcastle, we have a plethora of at-home getaway destinations practically in our backyards. Choose a child-friendly place near your home and allow your children to enjoy a day of excitement and unique experiences.

5. Go fishing:

Children love fishing and everything associated with it. So, why not reserve a comfortable camping area at your favorite dam and marvel at their joy with each fish they catch?

Remember to take pictures of their catches so they can look back on them when they are older.
