Matrics get prayer boost before their final exams

The mayor promised that the municipality will continue to support the matrics

With nine days left before the matrics of 2024 start writing their final exams, Inkosi Langalibalelele Local Municipality (ILM) held a matric prayer event at the Wembezi multi-purpose facility yesterday (October 11). All the Grade 12 learners from all 42 ILM high schools were invited.

The main purpose of the prayer was to ask God to be with the matriculants in their exams and for a smooth examination process without any disturbances, as any exam interruption could have an impact on the pass rate.

Pastors from different churches, motivational speakers such as Sicelo Mncube and Lungi M, traditional leadership and councillors were among the speakers at the service.

The learners were advised to stay focused on their studies. Motivational speaker Sicelo Mncube emphasised that learners must keep away from undesirable influences and instead spend their time with people who will move them forward in life.

Pastor Lungi M advised the Grade 12s to believe in themselves and that they will pass matric with flying colours. He, however, said this will not be possible if they mix their studies with alcohol, girlfriends/boyfriends and other social ills.

ILM Mayor Mduduzi Myeza, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Sithabiso Dladla and Speaker SW Khumalo, conveyed words of gratitude to all the teachers and praised them for their marvellous efforts in teaching the nation. He said that if it was up to him, teachers would earn more than all the professions in the world.

Myeza congratulated the ‘Class of 2024’ and said they were lucky to have this ‘strong prayer’ before they kick-start their last exams that will pave their way to success in the world.

The mayor then kept the promise he made in January that all students who did well in the June exams would be gifted with laptops. He presented the top achievers with laptops.

The learners were entertained by different artists.
