Meet Dia Singh of St Dominics Newcastle, a top 2023 IEB Achiever

Dia has been a consistent participant and winner in various international science fairs, earning accolades for her inventive projects.

Dia Singh (17), a standout learner from Curro’s St. Dominics Newcastle, has emerged as one of the top achievers in the 2023 Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric results.

Dia’s extraordinary academic prowess has earned her a place in the top one per cent in the country; excelling in subjects including:

  • Accounting,
  • Business Studies,
  • English home language,
  • Life Orientation,
  • Afrikaans FAL,
  • Life Sciences,
  • Mathematics.

What makes Dia’s achievement even more remarkable is her exceptional performance in:

  • Core Mathematics (98%),
  • Further Studies Mathematics (95%),
  • FSM Finance (94%), and FSM Standard ‘Calculus
  • Algebra’ (95%) in securing 10 distinctions at an average of 95% for the 2023 IEB Matric Examinations.

She has received an “Outstanding Achievement” Award, which is awarded to IEB candidates within the top 5% in six or more subjects, and has achieved a rating level of seven in life orientation.

Dia has achieved a 90%+ average in each of her 10 subjects, including Physical Science.

Her fantastic triumph is the cherry on top, rounding off an incredible academic journey that has seen the dynamic learner commit to excellence in all areas of her education.

As the school’s 2023 head girl, Dia is the first-ever recipient in the school’s 132-year history of the prestigious and special honours blazer for her tenth honours re-award at St. Dominics Newcastle.

Her innovative spirit was also recognised globally when she received the first runner-up award at the HP Steam International Expo in Dubai for her PIP System invention in 2022 and was then placed second runner-up at the Taiwan International Science Fair in 2023.
