Career guidance programme benefits over 24 600 students

This programme, which began last year, recently expanded its reach to an additional 20 high schools in August and September, visiting 41 schools.

An initiative aimed at providing career guidance and empowerment to high school learners in KwaZulu-Natal, the Nyala Future Fit Programme, has successfully reached over 24 600 students across the region.

This programme, which began last year, recently expanded its reach to an additional 20 high schools in August and September, visiting 41 schools.

In partnership with Careerlinx and Career Connect Group, experts in career advice, the programme conducted workshops in under-resourced communities to help students make informed choices about their future.

“The need for such a programme is critical, given the high number of unemployed youth in KZN. The Nyala Future Fit Programme is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and resources necessary to make informed decisions about their careers,” said Sibongile Mooko, marketing executive at Premier which produces Nyala.

The programme targets learners in Grades 9, 11, and 12, ensuring that they receive valuable guidance at crucial stages of their academic journey.

“We believe that career guidance is essential for every young person. This programme is not just about helping learners choose the right subjects or career paths; it’s about empowering them with the information and confidence to build a successful future,” explained Jennifer Higgs, managing director of Careerlinx Empowerment Solutions and Career Connect Group.

With the successful completion of the recent workshops in Empangeni, Pongola, Newcastle, and Ladysmith, the Nyala Future Fit Programme has reached a further 10 600 learners across 20 additional high schools.

The impact of this initiative extends far beyond the classroom, as it fosters a sense of hope and ambition among the youth in KZN.

The programme included icebreaker sessions, self-awareness discussions, and activities such as “Dare to Dream,” where learners could express their aspirations.

In addition, they learned about different career categories and industries, helping them better understand the opportunities available.

“As a brand deeply connected to the province – we are committed to supporting the community. The Nyala Future Fit Programme aligns with our purpose to empower the youth and provide them with opportunities for a brighter future,” concluded Mooko.
