Newcastle High School hosts annual Choir Festival

It is hosted over a two-day span and it’s currently the biggest school choir festival in the region and features both high schools and primary schools

The annual Newcastle High School Choir Festival took place on Wednesday, August 23 and Thursday, August 24 at Newcastle High School.

It is hosted over a two-day span, and it’s currently the biggest school choir festival in the region and features both high schools and primary schools from across Northern Natal and Mpumalanga.

The high schools present were:

  • Vryheid Landbou
  • Vryheid High School
  • Siyamukela High School
  • St Dominics Newcastle
  • Dundee High School
  • Volksrust High School
  • Sarel Cilliers High School and
  • Newcastle High School

Primary schools that performed were:

  • Drakensberg Primary School
  • Arborpark Primary School
  • Khaselihle Primary School
  • St Dominics Newcastle
  • Republiek Primary School (Vryheid)

“This year we launched an extension to the festival: the Drama and Poetry Festival was on August 22 and the Dance Festival was on August 23 at the NHS School Hall,” the school said.

The schools at the drama, poetry, and dance festival included:

  • Bethamoya High School,
  • Phendukani Full Service School,
  • Hlalanathi High School,
  • Osizweni Youth in Action,
  • Nokukhanya Full Service School,
  • Dedangifunde High School
  • Siyamukela High School

“It is for this reason that we coined a new name: NHS Culture Week. This is a new means to promote additional art forms and give platforms to other artistic forms of expression.”
