Five senior boys qualified at the inter-district soccer trials to represent VHS at the Northern KwaZulu-Natal trials

Soccer

Term 3 at Vryheid High School (VHS) started on a high note, as a number of senior boys excelled in soccer. Five senior boys qualified at the inter-district soccer trials to represent VHS at the Northern KwaZulu-Natal trials. They are: S Mkhwanazi, A Mulungesha, S Ndwandwe, L Zulu and S Dlongolo. VHS commends such achievements, as it is the school’s objective to create young individuals who excel in academics and extracurricular activities. Furthermore, S Mkhwanazi and S Dlongolo not only made the Northern KwaZulu-Natal soccer team, but also excelled on the rugby field – they are undoubtedly multi-talented and such talent will always be valued at VHS.

Fast 5 netball

VHS’s netball girls participated in the Sarel Cilliers Fast 5 netball tournament. The U/17 squad comprises A Zulu, B Madonsela, N Phiri, T Mdlalose, M Phaswana, T Ntshangase, S Kunene and S Khanyile. The U/17 team made VHS proud by being victorious after winning three games and drawing one. The results were as follow: VHS 15-10 SCH, VHS 12-4 Ethangeni, VHS 11-10 Ferrum, and VHS 13-13 NHS. The U/15 scores were as follows: VHS 20- EHS, VHS 10-7 SCH, VHS 10-2 DHS, and VHS 4-12 PHS. Overall, the U/15 team came second in the tournament. Additionally, the girls showcased their talent and came back home with some trophies. Nongcebo Mhlongo received a trophy for ‘Best Junior Shooter’ of the tournament. Thando Mdlalose received a trophy for ‘Best Senior Shooter’.
VHS learners continue to demonstrate diligence and hard work in academics and various sporting codes. “We are extremely proud of our netball girls for such outstanding achievements.”

7s rugby

On Saturday, the U/15s demonstrated outstanding rugby skills and commendable talent while participating in the Sarel Cilliers 7s tournament. The U/15s came second out of eight schools that were present. The boys won four games and lost one. The results are as follows: VHS 33-12 SCH, VHS 36-7 NHS, VHS 26-Volksrust, VHS 26-7 Ferrum, and VHS 7-19 Pionier. Overall, VHS came second in this tournament. U/15 7s coach Rudolf Scholtz has always strived to create competent young rugby players.
