Department of Education exposes Grade 12s to different careers

“The exhibition was there to assist as well as expose Grade 12 learners to different career choices in order for them to choose the career paths they want to pursue after high school''

A career exhibition organised by the Department of Education took place on Thursday and Friday at the Cecil Emmet Hall.

Dr Ngobese from the Education Department, who is the co-ordinator of career guidance in the Zululand District, mentioned that, “The exhibition was there to assist as well as expose Grade 12 learners to different career choices in order for them to choose the career paths they want to pursue after high school. However, it was mainly hosted to give them support and guidance on what they can do after matric in terms of studying.’’ Learners from different local schools and some from eDumbe availed themselves for the day.

Officials from different institutions of higher education – such as the Durban University of Technology, University of the Free State, University of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as private colleges – were present at the exhibition. Officials assisted the learners with information pertaining to different careers, the marks one needs to obtain, and how to apply in order to enroll at any institution in South Africa.

The learners were also given information about the different options when it comes to funding for their education, for example how to apply for bursaries that companies / organisations offer. Not forgetting NSFAS.

Municipal officials from different departments also supported the exhibition.
