NHS Environmental Club takes to the streets during clean-up campaign

School principal, Manny Govender, commended the learners for giving up their time to volunteer in the campaign and stated how proud he was of them.

Newcastle High School Environmental Club members, together with teachers and Newcastle Municipal officials, led a clean-up campaign throughout the CBD this past Saturday (March 5).

Event organiser and teacher, Ms Sibiya, said the aim of the campaign was to teach learners the importance of a clean environment and to encourage them to take responsibility for their surroundings.

She added that the Environmental Club was going to become more involved with other stakeholders to assist with keeping the town clean as well as hosting clean-ups around their school every Friday.

School principal, Manny Govender, commended the learners for giving up their time to volunteer in the campaign and stated how proud he was of them.

“Thank you for being here today and giving up your Saturday to help clean up the streets of Newcastle. I am a firm believer that cleanliness is next to Godliness. We are so proud to be associated with our town as a school, and we recognise that we carry the town’s name high. Today, we want to send a clear message to the municipality that we are here to help them deliver service,” said Mr Govender.
