Ten tips to help your child endure homework

These top ten tips will help your child cope with homework:

Many parents worry about how their child is doing in school on a daily basis. Schoolwork continues to pile up, and it’s not getting any easier.

Here is a list of homework tips to help them get through that stressful part of their day.

Get to know their teachers:

Knowing all of the teachers is critical as a parent. Set up meetings so you can become acquainted with them. Make it clear to the teachers that you want the best for your child and will assist them in any way possible to ensure their academic success.

Create a comfortable homework area:

Clear out a room or area of the house that will be conducive to homework. Make sure the child has everything he needs to do his homework easily and comfortably.

Eliminate distractions:

Make sure all distractions, such as cellphones, televisions are turned off. The more quiet the environment, the better your child will be able to concentrate on their work.

Let them do the work themselves:

Many people lack the patience to deal with homework, so their parents do all of the work for them. This should not be happening! You can direct and explain what to do to the child, but it is their responsibility to complete the work themselves. If it is done for them, how else will they learn?

Create a homework schedule:

Nobody enjoys sitting for hours on end doing homework. Make a schedule that includes homework times. This allows them to relax while also maintaining their concentration levels.

Monitor and motivate:

This is due, once again, to not doing the work for them. Every half hour or so, check in on the child to see how they are doing. Explain what they don’t understand and double-check that they’re doing their job correctly. A child feels more proud knowing that he completed the task himself and received high marks.

Lead by example:

Children listen and observe far more than we realize. If you complain about doing work or housework, your child will develop a similar attitude toward their work. Make a point of speaking positively about everything you do in front of your child. Allow them to understand that school and homework are supposed to be enjoyable.

Praise their work:

Children want to be recognized for their efforts. If they are doing an excellent job, compliment them frequently. However, you should also notify them if you believe they are slacking.

Make sure they’re prepared:

Ensure that your child has everything they need to complete their homework without interruption. Before they begin their homework, they should have stationery, water, and possibly a snack ready.

Approach teachers if there is a problem:

If, despite your efforts, your child is still struggling with his or her homework, it is best to consult with their teacher. You and your colleagues could come up with new ways to assist or solve the problem.
