Harpo learners dress up as their future jobs

“Career dress-up activities aim to give learners exposure to different career options that are available. It also intends to equip learners with skills and knowledge so they are able to make informed decisions regarding subject selection and combinations from Grade 10 to 12.’’

Schools are encouraged to take part in career dress-up activities, as this exposes learners to what they want to become when they are older.

Last week Wednesday, Harpo Primary School had a Career Dress-Up Day, where the learners came to school dressed up as the career they would like to pursue when they ‘grow up’.
Mr Mhlungu, alongside Mr Kubheka, organised the event and called in experts to teach and motivate the children about the various jobs out there. Kubheka mentioned that, “Career dress-up activities aim to give learners exposure to different career options that are available. It also intends to equip learners with skills and knowledge so they are able to make informed decisions regarding subject selection and combinations from Grade 10 to 12.’’

The enthusiastic young learners said they want to become lawyers, doctors, financial managers, paramedics, broadcasters, businessmen and -women, teachers, fashion designers and pilots. Individuals who are already in those fields encouraged the children to study hard and told them what requirements are needed, the subjects they will have to study, the work conditions in that specific field, and the issues and challenges they may face while working in that particular field.

Two learners, Asanda Mbatha (Grade 3) and Mpho Xaba (Grade 7), secured the opportunity to be mentored by Richard Mabaso from the Imbumbe Foundation. Asanda aspires to become a businesswoman in construction, and Mpho wants to become a financial manager.
