Municipality prioritises nutrition and health awareness

The local municipality thanked all the stakeholders and the community of EMahhashini for voluntarily giving of their time to be part of the programme

The Ward 17 Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) War Room, together with the Department of Health (DoH), recently hosted a ‘Nutrition Day & Health Promotion Awareness Event’ at Early Childhood Crèche in Ward 17.

The programme started with different social partners visiting two households to promote health and hope through different activities.

The aim of the initiative was to engage and empower individuals and communities to choose healthy behaviours and shun social ills, thereby reducing the risk of developing chronic diseases.

Another belief at the core of the programme is that ensuring every learner has access to proper nutrition, healthcare and a safe environment is essential for their growth and development.

“We want to encourage residents and visitors to create a supportive environment for health; strengthen community action for health; raise awareness about health; limit unhealthy food; drink water; and limit sugary beverages. We also encourage investors and local business owners to support these initiatives,” said ward convener B Ndlovu.

The Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality OSS said this awareness session would not have succeeded without the strategic collaboration of key stakeholders and the community at large.
