Residents demand action to remedy water crisis

Various suburbs have been plagued by water outages over the last few days

Growing outrage has erupted in a few Ladysmith suburbs as residents demand answers from uThukela District Municipality amid crippling water shortages.

For three days, Aloe Park, Leonardsville, Hillside, Rose Park and Acaciavale residents have been without this essential service, with some streets suffering for almost six days.

Frustrated residents took to social media to express their discontent. “How are we expected to survive without water?” asked one resident. “We can’t even flush our toilets or wash our hands.”

uThukela responded yesterday (October 5) with a press release stating that the municipal manager has ordered all bulk employees to return to work immediately with the goal being to restore water supply in all affected areas.

“We understand the urgency and apologise for the inconvenience,” said uThukela.

However, residents remain skeptical. “We’ve heard promises before,” said another resident. “We need action, not words.”
