Peacetown water pump station vandalised

The very same pump station was vandalised a few weeks ago

uThukela District Municipality would like to warn the community that vandalism of water infrastructure sets them back with their plans to provide essential services and at the same time, it deprives the community from receiving such services. This warning comes in the wake of yet another water pump station being vandalised in Peacetown, Ward 15, under Alfred Duma Local Municipality last night (September 25).

The very same pump station was vandalised a few weeks ago. It must be made clear that vandalism disrupts the municipality’s service delivery plans and targets. As soon as water infrastructure is damaged, uThukela has to take urgent steps to restore the water supply, steps that are not budgeted for.

Hence, uThukela calls upon all community members to be proactive and guard their own infrastructure within their communities. They must also report any criminal acts to law enforcement agencies, because this infrastructure belongs to the community at the end of the day. Once it is vandalised, they will be directly affected.

A case has been opened with Ladysmith SAPS.
