Annual Juloos-e-Muhammadi celebrates birth of Prophet Muhammad

The annual Juloos-e-Muhammadi, organised by the Jamia Imam Ahmad Raza Trust (JIARAT), was held in Lennoxton on Sunday (September 15).

The event drew people from various backgrounds, all united in their commitment to upholding the Prophet’s message of kindness and unity. The atmosphere was filled with the reverent sound of dhikr, as participants paraded up Boundary Road, holding banners adorned with the Prophet’s teachings.

The procession, known as the Juloos, commenced with the recitation of the Qur’an, followed by heartfelt naats (praises) celebrating the Prophet and a parade down Boundary Road.

“At its essence, the Juloos-e-Muhammadi serves to remind us of the Prophet’s role as a “Mercy to the worlds” (Qur’an 21:107),” commented Ali Hoosen

“His life exemplifies how to live harmoniously with others, irrespective of their race, religion, or background and he further demonstrated that peace begins in the heart, grounded in a profound connection to the Creator, and extends outward in our interactions with fellow human beings and the broader creation,” he stated

According to the participants, the meaningful procession held by the Jamia Imam Ahmad Raza Trust and the participating community members delivered a powerful message that peace, mercy, and kindness are not merely abstract ideals but actionable virtues that we must strive to practice daily.

The event further urged attendees to rise above hatred, violence, and intolerance, embracing the mercy that the Prophet personified.

“The Juloos served as a call to action, encouraging everyone to translate these values into everyday actions. Whether through acts of charity, assisting a neighbour, or sharing a kind word, each small gesture contributes to fostering a more peaceful and compassionate society,” stated Hoosen

As the event concluded, a heartfelt dua (supplication) was made for global peace and the unity of the Muslim Ummah. Participants left the procession with renewed spirits, inspired by the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ and committed to carrying his message of peace and mercy into their communities and beyond.

JIARAT thanked all the officials, ambulance service, fire department, traffic police, SAPS, and the Newcastle Municipality for their invaluable support in making this Juloos a remarkable success.

“May Allah grant us all the strength to embody the peace and mercy taught by our beloved Prophet and inspire future generations with his timeless message,” concluded Hoosen
