Heavy snow threatens to close routes in NKZN, including N3

Heavy snowfall could mean road closures

A level 6 snow storm has descended on parts of Northern KZN, with heavy snowfall reported at Van Reenen’s Pass along the N3, as well as Oliviershoek Pass on the R74.

Reports are filtering in of people trapped on Oliviershoek Pass. Rescue services are attempting to reach them.

More snow is expected for this area tonight (September 20) and both passes will almost certainly be closed at some point tonight.

N3TC has begun spraying brine due to heavy vehicles losing traction.
