The event took place at the Mayor’s Boardroom, uThukela District offices, where the KZN deputy police commissioner, Major General Makhoba, led the introduction.

The new district commissioner, who hails from the Zululand District, said he was happy that he had been introduced to uThukela District Municipality and hoped they would work well together in the fight against crime. “I have been working in the police service for over 30 years, so I know the job very well. Welcoming Major General Gonya, the mayor expressed his hopes that crime will be reduced, mentioning the issue of investors being hesitant to invest due to crime.

“In my view, the less the crime, the better the investment opportunities will be for our town. People on our streets need to feel safe. Our town is known as ‘kwafela ubala’, translated as ‘dying for nothing’. We hope that with our new district commissioner, things will change,” said the mayor.
