Woodford Primary celebrates 50th anniversary

Distinguished guests gathered to commemorate this milestone

Woodford Primary School in Bergville celebrated its 50th anniversary at a prestigious event that was held on Thursday (August 29). The school opened its doors back in 1974.

“It still feels like yesterday when we had our desks and chalkboards in our hands as we were leaving the Bethany school and coming to the Woodford area to start a new school that was yet to be built,” recalls former teacher Mrs Dlamini.

Principal Mr SJ Miya said they saw the need to celebrate this milestone together with the community and parents, adding that he is proud to be part of the history of this school.

“Looking where the school comes from, it is amazing to see the progress and also the achievements we have accumulated along the way. The school is now settled, as we have a total of 713 learners, 20 classes and 23 teachers,” said Miya.

School Governing Body chairperson Melusi Gambu (who is also a former learner) said that, as parents, they are very happy with the milestone the school has achieved and they have committed themselves to continue offering support to the principal and his staff.
