MKP national leadership visits families after taxi crash

MKP Inkosi Langalibalele sub-region spokesperson Mcedisi Makuyi praised the deceased for their contribution to the party

Umkhoto Wesizwe Party (MKP) members paid a visit to the Wembezi and Zwelisha families yesterday (September 1) in the aftermath of Saturday’s tragic taxi crash that claimed the lives of members of these families.

The fatal taxi accident happened on Saturday morning (August 31), claiming numerous lives. MKP members were travelling from Estcourt to Nkandla to attend an event to honor the former president and MK president Jacob Zuma’s wife, Sizakele Khumalo Zuma.

It is alleged that the taxi, which was transporting Estcourt MKP members, overturned along the R74 near Kranskop and caught fire. It has been confirmed by MKP that six of their members – five from Wembezi and one from Zwelisha (all females) – lost their lives.

Visiting the families, the party members from national, provincial and regional level were part of a delegation that included national organiser Floyd Shivambu, head of the presidency Magasela Mzobe, treasurer general Menzi Magubane, deputy secretary general Nombuso Mkhize, secretary general Dr Sifiso Maseko, MKP KwaZulu-Natal legislature member Nathi Mthethwa and other supporters.

Secretary general Dr Maseko said they are very saddened after losing six of their comrades, but what is more painful is to lose the qualities they possessed. “We visited the Magubane, Mazibuko, Chonco, Dube and Ngcobo families. When visiting these families, we had one voice: we lost leadership and they left us with the challenge of keeping alive what they were doing. Let us work on top of what they were doing to revive Umkhoto. The support we just witnessed in the Inkosi Langalibalele region makes us proud that we are leaders who actually lead people,” said Maseko.
