Women experience nature at its best during their month

The African Habitat Conservancy (AHC) Foundation, in partnership with Babanango Game Reserve, hosted women from neighbouring communities to commemorate Women’s Month through conservation education.
The environmental education, paired with a practical experience within the reserve, showcased the importance of community and wildlife conservation.
“What a lovely time we had celebrating women from our local community! From an informative presentation on the conservation efforts of Babanango Game Reserve to a game drive and lunch to end off what was a successful day. It was great to see everyone enjoying time out in nature and experiencing the natural beauty that exists in the reserve,” said AHC Foundation manager Thina Nyathi.
AHC is a registered public benefit organisation that has been instrumental in supporting sustainable development initiatives in the surrounding communities of Babanango. The foundation works together with Babanango Game Reserve, the land-owning trusts and other stakeholders to identify and implement projects that promote enterprise development that supports marginalised communities.
Some of the projects undertaken by the foundation include vocational training, drilling boreholes for fresh water by solar-powered pumps, reading glasses for those in need, assistance in sustainable grazing practices, and supporting and promoting sports such as soccer among the youth. Through these projects, the foundation is linking the establishment of the reserve to broader socio-economic benefits, particularly those that are aligned with sustainable resource management and activities that align with conserving the natural environment for future generations.
