Overwhelming support at school’s Flea Market and Fun Day

Chairperson of Newcastle Senior Primary’s (NSPS) fundraising committee, Zaakira Khan, described the school’s biggest public event to date as an ‘absolute success’.

Khan, a member of the School Governing Body (SGB), intends to turn the Flea Market and Family Fun Day hosted at NSPS on Saturday, into an annual affair.

She said the funds raised at such events would go a long way towards upgrading facilities at the 120-year old school to benefit both learners and educators.

Besides hosting more than 30 vendors at the flea market, NSPS also held a five-a-side soccer tournament on the day, as well as a Mr and Mrs NSPS pageant and obstacle inflatables which included jumping castles and a water-slide. Lester the Jester from McLaren Circus wowed the children and the young at heart, while Rhinestones Rhythms impressed with their cowboy dance moves.

“The response to the soccer tournament was overwhelming with a hundred learners from various schools participating,” said Khan.

She added that the highlight of the event, however, was hearing from the majority of the vendors that they had sold out on the day. “That was so heart-warming to hear,” remarked Khan.

Khan thanked her colleagues on the SGB and the school staff for their assistance and expressed praise and gratitude towards Mrs A McDonald, Ms C Smit, Mrs A de Swart and Mrs Z Smith, who she referred to as her lifeline through organising and hosting the Fun Day.

“Words cannot express how grateful I am for your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm. Together, we turned our vision into a reality, and I am so proud of what we have achieved. Your tireless efforts, creativity, and teamwork were the driving force behind the success of this event,” she said.

Khan also thanked the businesses whose sponsorships ensured the success of the Fun Day, including Sho’Carz, Autoworld, Trivs Emergency Services, Aryan & Ayush Mohan, Switch Electrical, Rhinestone Rhythms, Nikee D Photography, Quick Snacks, Value City, STL Drone Videography, Ithemba Security Services, Star Media, Figures Models Finesse International, Nashville Spur, Light it Newcastle, J&S Freighthaul, Edgars, Kinnos Tents, Shories Marquees, Maka Ndalos Beauty House and S&M Two Way Radios.
