uThukela to repair broken boreholes and hand pumps

Over 17 boreholes have been fixed in the past five days

In a decisive move to address water supply challenges, particularly in rural areas, uThukela District Municipality has launched an intensive programme aimed at repairing all broken boreholes and hand pumps across the district. This initiative, spearheaded by Mayor Inkosi Ntandoyenkosi Shabalala, is a critical step towards improving access to water for communities lacking adequate infrastructure.

The programme has already seen significant progress, with over 17 broken boreholes repaired in the past five days.

These repairs have been successfully completed in the following areas: Moba Ward 15, Matiwane Ward 24 and 23, Driefontein Ward 17 and 18, KwaShuzi and Mkhumbane, all located within Alfred Duma Local Municipality. The municipality is committed to addressing these issues swiftly to ensure that communities receive the water they urgently need.

This ambitious programme will be extended to all local municipalities within the district.

The mayor has called on all councillors to assist in identifying broken boreholes by emailing the details to the Office of the Mayor at pa.mayor@uthukela.gov.za
