Mayor assists Mdluli family after house fire leaves them almost destitute

Newcastle Mayor Cllr Xolani Dube paid a condolence visit to the Mdluli family who were left devastated by a fire that destroyed their home in Madadeni's section 3.

Mthandeni Myende (Acting Director: Communications and Customer Relations), said Mayor Dube had offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pledged multifarious help to alleviate their predicament.

“As a caring and responsive municipality, we deemed it imperative to offer our solidarity and assistance in this hour of need. Although we cannot restore what has been lost, our presence here underscores our commitment to the well-being of our constituents,” said Mayor Dube.

Cllr Dube emphasised the importance of being vigilant, especially during the harsh winter months, and urged communities to practice extra caution while using heating appliances to avoid similar tragedies.

This visit corresponds with the municipality’s upcoming implementation of preventive measures and recommendations to avoid similar tragedies.

To demonstrate the municipality’s compassion, Mayor Dube presented the family with emergency relief packages containing clothing for the children and food supplies. He also promised ‘additional comprehensive support.’
