uThukela warns community to boil water

Affected areas include Ezakheni, Acaciavale and Weenen

uThukela District Municipality warns residents to boil water for the next 48 hours.

“Thereafter, water will be safe to drink, as we would have already flushed the pipelines and the reservoir on our municipal system,” said uThukela in a media statement.

Boil alert tips if you are under a boil-water notice:

– Do not drink tap water;

– Wash dishes, fruits and vegetables in boiled water or water that has been disinfected with bleach;

– Using a dishwasher is not recommended;

– Do not use ice made from recent tap water;

– Brush your teeth with boiled or bottled water;

– Do not use tap water to make drinks or juices;

– You can wash your hands and bathe as usual;

– Cook with tap water ONLY if food is boiled;

– Wash laundry as usual in hot or cold water;

– Bring water to a rolling boil for one minute to kill most organisms;

– If you cannot boil your water, mix one teaspoon of unscented, ordinary household chlorine bleach to 20 litres of water. Mix the solution thoroughly, cover and allow to stand for at least two hours before use.
