Town mourns the late W/O Stanley Holloway

Holloway was laid to rest on Wednesday, June 28, during a special memorial service held at Graceway Community Church.

Tributes have poured in for Warrant Officer Stanley Holloway from the Newcastle Search and Rescue Unit who passed away last month.

Holloway was widely respected for his optimism and perseverance, was instrumental in establishing the K9 Search and Rescue Unit in the Amajuba District.

He worked tirelessly to secure funding and equipment for the unit, which led to the successful retrieval of over 100 bodies and individuals
Close friend, Mornè Potgieter, spoke highly of his honesty, courage, and dedication, , pledging to keep Holloway’s memory alive.

“I will cherish his honesty and values. Holloway was laid to rest at a memorial service attended by loved ones, colleagues, and fellow crime fighters who admired his dedication to helping the community.”

Holloway leaves behind a legacy of positivity, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Colleagues remember him as a jovial, dedicated, and compassionate person who always went above and beyond to help others, including saving lives.

The CPF highlighted his dedication during the 2023 floods and recommended a commendation medal for his exceptional work.

Others from security organisations who worked closely with Holloway since his arrival in Newcastle from the South Coast about years ago said they admired his bravery and dedication to saving lives regardless of the circumstances.

They shared fond memories of working together on challenging missions and admired his experience and thoroughness in his job and will dearly miss his warm smile and the positive impact he had on everyone he met.
