Illegal dumping rears its ugly head yet again

Concerned residents ask why people ignore refuse collection days and simply choose to dirty up the environment

Illegal dumping is an ongoing problem, as people continue to dump their waste anywhere and everywhere.

A concerned resident recently reported illegal dumping in Helpmekaar Road and shared her frustration. She claims to have reported this issue a number of times, with no success. This is not the only area to be affected, with vacant plots of land regularly becoming areas where people dispose of their refuse.

Another concerned resident commented that, “Illegal dumping negatively impacts on the environment; it causes pollution and global warming. To make matters worse, the culprits sometimes set their rubbish alight as well. This causes air pollution, and poses a danger to nearby houses and buildings.

The general consensus is that the municipality has bin collection days every week, but illegal dumping remains an eyesore and a health hazard in this town.
