ACR presenter needs votes to win MAMA award

Sboniso Mntungwa has been nominated for a Mzansi Art and Media Award (MAMA) in the category of ‘Best Radio Presenter’.

After four months behind the microphone, Sboniso Mntungwa has been nominated for a Mzansi Art and Media Award (MAMA) in the category of ‘Best Radio Presenter’. Mntungwa is a presenter at ACR (AbaQulusi Community Radio Station).
Growing up in Piet Retief, he had a desire to work in construction or the mines.
He graduated in Quantity Surveying before becoming a salesman. “I believe my calling was to be a salesperson more than a construction worker. I enjoyed being a salesman, but when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I got retrenched and had to come back home.”
Mntungwa says he has always been an all-rounder, from being a farmer to public speaking, event organising and having his own NPO called ‘Knitted to Accomplish’. “Every time I had to speak in public, I would take video clips of myself and I believed I had a voice for radio. In my room, I would break down songs and pretend as if I was on air or radio. I worked on different content at home and did demos that I submitted to various radio stations.”
Mntungwa hosts the Late Show every Monday to Thursday from 9-12pm, where he engages with his audience on different topics, be it psychological, legal or health matters, as well as wine. “This nomination means that my sleepless nights were not in vain. Preparation gets you places and the grace of God has played a role too.”
Mntungwa thanks his uncle, Siya Lushaba, aunt Kindo and GE Lushaba, for their continuous support. He also thanks ACR for allowing him the opportunity to be on the radio. To vote for Sboniso, SMS ‘MAMA 1276’ to 40439 (SMSs cost R2). He can be contacted on
