Lions Club helps ease those winter blues

When it comes to the love of charity, the Newcastle Lions Club never seems to disappoint.

This was again proven when the Lions hosted their annual Winter Warmer Project on June 8.

Lions Club member, Annette Conradie, commented that although the day was extremely cold and icy, everyone experienced an amazing time.

“Our day might have been freezing cold but our hearts were warm. Feeding and clothing the community was humbling,” she said.

Conradie said the turnout was well beyond their expectations, with nearly 500 people showing up.

Each family received blankets, toiletries, clothing, and a warm meal.

“We could not have done this without every team member of the Lions Ladies, Newcastle, who helped with sorting out all the clothes and arranged the logistics of collections and drop-offs.”

Members of the Majuba Rotary Club as well as Davida van der Merwe Optometrists also assisted the Lions on the day.

Conradie wished to thank the following people for their donations: The Barn, Broker Assist, Allwear, Nashua Maluti, Factory Plaza, Hofina Poultry, Huttenpark Primary School, and Ruth Lovelock.

“We also want to say thank you to the community who donated towards our winter warmer; it is always greatly appreciated,” Conradie concluded
