Newcastle CBD to benefit from new stormwater pipes

The Newcastle Municipality Technical Team is hard at work with storm water maintenance in Voortrekker and Sutherland Streets.

Stormwater drainage is a critical infrastructure which the Newcastle Municipality’s technical team is working hard on maintaining in Voortrekker and Sutherland Streets.

The municipality said neglecting it (stormwater drainage infrastructure)  can lead to a range of societal and environmental problems, from flooding to water pollution and erosion.

Mayor DX Dube stated that prioritising stormwater drain maintenance in Newcastle and using pipelining when needed, can ensure the ‘reliable performance of these essential infrastructure systems that will protect our communities from the devastating consequences of stormwater-related issues.’
