Amajuba MK Party speaks out post elections

The party remains in the headlines as they challenge the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) over the election results.

In an interview with the Newcastle Advertiser, Thokozani Nene, the party’s Amajuba Interim Regional Coordinator, discussed the local branch’s dispute with the election results in the district, as well as their future prospects in the current local political landscape.

Thanking members, supporters and all who voted for MK, Nene said they believe their support is much greater than the results showed. “We believe it is far more than 52%, but the matter is still with the courts.

“We have lodged disputes at the electoral court and also at the Constitutional Court because we have observed a plethora of irregularities countrywide,” he stated.

In a letter drafted by the party’s attorney locally to the IEC, the Amajuba branch challenges the voting results of two voting districts, the Panorama voting district and Blaauwbosch Youth Development Centre voting district.

The party alleges multiple discrepancies in what they believe is the incorrect number of votes captured and the wrong number of ballots counted. Through the attorney’s letter, the party called for a recount of the ballots, believing that the alleged discrepancies’ have a significant bearing on the party’s provincial and regional total tally.

Responding to the objections by the party, IEC Amajuba District regional manager Nonhlanhla Mbonane said: “They (MK) are entitled to object, and if they said they sent an objection letter, the commission has responded to all those objections, so they should’ve received a response from the IEC

“I am quite confident that the IEC did respond to the relevant author of the objection. All the objections that were received on time were attended to,” she emphasised.

Moving forward, the party remains optimistic about the impact they want to have in the district and is looking forward to the 2026 local elections, where they remain confident of governing the municipalities within the Amajuba district. “We envisage a district that is favourable to investor confidence, which will attract businesses, industries, mines, and farms so that unemployment will be a thing of the past,” he states.

Concluding, Nene assured the community that the party is ‘for everyone’ and will soon be opening fully functional offices to service the community of the district.

“We are determined to put Amajuba district on the map with matters of infrastructure development and societal transformation in general,” he said.
