Wacky Wednesday: Five of the strangest phobias

The Newcastle Advertiser has a look at five of the 'weirdest' phobias known to man.

It is never a ‘laughing’ matter when one experiences a fear so crippling that it leaves you in tears.

However, sometimes those fears may seem a bit ‘over the top’ and unreal, and one cannot help but laugh about them.

The Newcastle Advertiser has compiled five of the strangest phobias we could find:

1. Arachibutyrophobia:

Arachibutyrophobia is the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of one’s mouth.

2. Somniphobia:

Somniphobia is the fear of ‘initiating sleep’ or falling asleep.

3. Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia:

Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia is the fear of the number 666.

4. Spectrophobia:

Spectrophobia or catoptrophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of mirrors and an anxiety about seeing one’s face reflected in them.

5. Omphalophobia:

Omphalophobia is a fear of belly buttons.
